The South African Composers’ Symposium and The Songmakers’ Guild invite composers to enter for their composition competition.

Rules:

  1. Composers must be resident in South Africa and born in 1983 or later to enter.
  2. The composers’ submitted works must fulfil the following requirements:
    1. Written for mezzosoprano and piano or baritone and piano
    2. 8 to 15 minutes in length
    3. On a text by a South African writer in any South African language (official or otherwise)
  3. The work may be a single song, a group of songs or a song cycle.
  4. The work does not have to be composed new for the competition: it may also include an existing song or songs, as long as the resulting work still fulfils the competition requirements.
  5. Composers must submit their work as a PDF score and include a Midi realisation or audio recording of the work.
  6. The final submission deadline is Monday, 17 July 2023. No late submissions will be accepted.
  7. No entry fee is required for the competition application.
